SUPERVISING PHARMACIST AMY SHARES HER STORY
Amy started her journey with Hickey’s Pharmacy in October 2012 working as a Relief Pharmacist, supporting many of our Dublin stores.
What I like most about my job with Hickey’s Pharmacy is the personal service each patient receives.
Amy was soon offered a position as a Support Pharmacist located in our Fortunestown, Tallaght store before she took up the role of Supervising Pharmacist in our Crumlin store. In Crumlin, Amy also worked as a store manager where she was responsible for the day to day running of the store, team and dispensary.
There is an excellent support network provided from your team, to the Support Office and the other pharmacies. You never feel like you have no one to turn to if you have a query. Hickey’s Pharmacy also provides numerous trainings to support Pharmacists and store managers including vaccination trainings, CPR trainings, Pharmacist training days, ISME course and Pharmacy intern tutor training - just to name a few. The ISME course is a learning and development based programme dedicated for a retail setting. It helps with leadership and management skills which has been a foundation for me in managing the pharmacy team.
Currently, Amy is our Supervising Pharmacist in our Northside Shopping Centre store. Northside is one of our busiest dispensaries where Amy works with a team of 2 other Pharmacists and 5 Pharmacy Technicians.
“Each day is different at Hickey’s Pharmacy and brings new challenges. I like the fast pace behind the dispensary where I am checking prescriptions, minding the work flow and dispensary team, helping with patients’ queries and consultations, communicating with doctors and hospitals, giving vaccinations and carrying out any of our many services like cholesterol tests and diabetes tests.”
In addition to this role, Amy has recently taken a new position in our Support Office managing the recruitment of Pharmacists and the training of our pharmacy intern students.
It’s a new challenge for me, it involves pushing myself out of my comfort zone – involving good time management and delegation skills. I’m looking forward to meeting new people and welcoming them into Hickey’s Pharmacy.
Amy’s enthusiasm over the years for healthcare has led her to new and exciting roles within Hickey’s Pharmacy. We look forward to supporting Amy in both her new role and as Supervising Pharmacist in one of our busiest pharmacies.
