Supplements to Support a Healthy Heart

September is Irish Heart Month and we’re here to help you and your heart health. See our recommended supplements to help you look after your heart below.

Omega 3 Fatty Acids

Omega 3 fatty acids consist of EPA and DHA which are primarily found in certain fish. ALA (alpha-linolenic acid), another omega-3 fatty acid, is found in plant sources such as nuts and seeds. Not only does your body need these fatty acids to function, but they also deliver some big health benefits. EPA reduces the amount of bad cholesterol (LDL) in your blood and DHA increases the amount of HDL in your blood.

MorEPA Cholesterol

MorEPA Cholesterol is a unique food supplement with all the healthy benefits of high concentrated omega-3 with red yeast rice, CO-Q10 together with folic acid, Vitamin B 6 – B 12 which helps to control and lower your cholesterol, triglyceride and homocysteine levels in your blood. MorEPA Cholesterol supports a strong and healthy heart. Patients who take MorEPA Cholesterol can reduce their total cholesterol level by up to 49% and increase their HDL (good) Cholesterol by up to 12%.

Revive Krill Oil

Krill are small, shrimp-like crustaceans. The omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA that are found in traditional fish oils tend to repel water, which impairs absorption in the digestive tract where the structure of the omega-3’s in krill oil promotes faster and more effective absorption. This product is available in selected stores.

Armolipid

Armolipid is a food supplement formulation taken to reduce cholesterol and triglycerides blood levels as part of a varied and balanced diet. Proven efficacy in reducing Total Cholesterol, LDL-C and homocysteine.

CoQ10

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a similar substance to a vitamin. It’s found in every cell of the body. Your body makes CoQ10, and your cells use it to produce energy your body needs for cell growth and maintenance. It functions as an antioxidant, which protects the body from damage caused by harmful molecules - free radicles. Coenzymes help enzymes work to digest food and perform other body processes, and they help protect the heart and skeletal muscle.

Statins (cholesterol medication) reduce blood serum levels of CoQ10 by up to 50% in 30 days. As the levels drop, the side effects of statins increase. The most complained about side effect of taking Statins is muscle and joint pain. New research shows that taking CoQ10 daily greatly reduces aches and pains associated with taking statins. Because CoQ10 aids in energy production and utilisation it greatly reduces fatigue and tiredness associated with taking Statins. Blood levels of CoQ10 increase after taking CoQ10 supplements, in a recent study, LDL (bad) cholesterol levels were reduced by 12.7%.

We recommend Pharmanord CoQ10 or Revive Ubiquinol to support your Co Q for our patients on cholesterol medication to help combat the associated side effects.
