We are now offering the Pneumococcal vaccination in Hickey’s Pharmacy.
The Pneumococcal vaccine is designed to prevent the spread of pneumococcal disease which can cause pneumonia, septicaemia (blood poisoning) and meningitis (inflammation around the brain). The bacteria can be spread from person to person by coughing, sneezing or close contact.
Hickey’s Pharmacy offers the flu vaccination without an appointment at a time that suits you! Plus if you fall into an at risk category you may be eligible to receive the vaccination for free.
It is important to get the vaccination every year if you are at risk, as the flu strains covered every year differ.

“People are being urged to get the flu vaccine as cases of flu and respiratory illnesses continue to rocket. After a dramatic increase in levels, the HSE has urged at-risk people, who have not yet got the flu vaccination, to do so as soon as possible. The latest Influenza surveillance report from Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HSPC) shows an almost doubling of the flu-like illness rate to 46.7, compared with 25.8 for the previous week. And the bad news is that cases are expected to rise even further in the coming weeks. There have also been several outbreaks in both residential care facilities and in acute hospital settings throughout the country - but particularly in Dublin." Jan 2016
